Al-Naqea is home to seven unrecognized Bedouin villages.
Geographically, it lies at the heart of the Be’er Sheva Valley; socially, it is central to the network of Bedouin villages and towns across the region. The area holds a richness of topographies, layered histories, and countless stories and landmarks that reflect the transformations the Naqab has undergone over the decades.

Today, the Jewish National Fund carries out widespread forestation projects on the lands of these villages—acts often aimed at challenging local land ownership and asserting control. In response, and on behalf of the Regional Council for the Unrecognized Bedouin Villages, I conducted a detailed mapping of the area. This process combined existing data with new insights gathered directly from the field and the voices of community members.

Through this work, it became clear that the region holds enormous economic and infrastructural potential. An unpaved road runs through all seven villages, connecting Route 25 with Route 31. This route offers not only a functional artery for movement, but also opens up the valley’s stunning landscape. Despite its importance, the road remains unrecognized—yet it could play a vital role in improving circulation and strengthening local economies.

At the same time, the mapping process revealed that a form of planning already exists. The villages have grown organically over time in ways that reflect social cohesion and local needs. This natural development forms a strong basis for a future master plan—one that does not erase, but rather enhances, what is already there. It offers a chance to integrate additional services and infrastructure while preserving the valley’s living heritage.
