Guilted Earth

A deep sense of suspicion arises within her, toward her landscape and what she sees in it. Kawkab is unsure whether the hills around her in Palestine can even be called a landscape, when what she sees feels more like ruins. When a sudden declaration of collapse echoes through the village’s mosque, Kawkab begins an existential journey; a simple attempt to build a home upon ruins she cannot remember, with money that ceased to exist.

Together with her friend, and guided by the bees as their mentors, they gather concrete off the apartheid walls, wood from the JNF forests, glass from Hebron, and other fragments. As they build their new home and wander through the cities of Palestine, Kawkab’s inner monologue grows larger, louder- until it becomes all we hear, all we see.
