This exhibition by the movement was also known as COVID in Palestine. It emerged during the early months of the pandemic, a time when many of us—artists and participants from different parts of Palestine—found ourselves back in our parents' homes. Jerusalem was no longer the central meeting point, and all of our conversations and collaborations had to move online.

The idea to explore Lifta, an abandoned village and one of the most beautiful places in Palestine, began before the pandemic. But during COVID, our relationship with Lifta transformed. We began looking for the “Lifta” within and around us—those neglected, untouched parts that, once acknowledged, reveal deep beauty and hidden truths about places, people, and histories.

The exhibition was open to artists from across the Arab region. It welcomed new participants from Palestine, Egypt, and Lebanon. It was hosted in Al-Bireh/Ramallah in a space generously provided by Multaka Al-Sharaka, through the support of Samer Karajah and Rami Masaad.

Held over two weeks, the exhibition received a remarkable gift from the Lifta Association—an offering from the original residents of the village who were displaced in 1967.

As one visitor remarked while standing before Assem Attun’s piece—where a pot of ‘ajin (dough) spills and hardens on a kitchen’s shaiesh (countertop):
“I could imagine this scene in Lifta.”
